The Luftwaffe, ruled the skies for over 4 years, after the outbreak of WWII, before they were finally suppressed in 1945. In that time, many of the pilots made their mark by becoming some of the highest scoring aces in history: Helmut Lipfert, Gerhard Barkhorn, “Jochen” Marseille, “Pritzel” Bar ... to mention just a few, were all famed for their aeronautical combat skill. Eric Hartman 'The Blonde Knight of Germany', still holds the record of 352 victories!

With these Aces, and out of the sky’s of  Germany came this beautiful jacket. For the German fighter pilot the tight fitting, hip length cut was an immediate hit. It set them aside from all other aviators, it was a status symbol, it was their uniform.

With the enclosed cockpit the need for the long Great Coat style mantel - like those used during the First World War - was no longer necessary. Pilots started cutting down their long coats and wasn't long before manufacturers took notice and started producing the short style jackets.

The short leather jackets were privately purchased and although outside of regulations, pilots along with many others, favored the short leather pilot’s jacket as the most suitable for doing their job. The authorities, knowing it was a huge moral booster, looked the other way so long as the jackets conformed to a basic design and color (Black or Brown).

The sergeants at Schoessler's Supply Room have recreated the most typical of these jackets. Using known originals as the pattern every detail has been looked to, including the weight of the leather down to the weight and pattern of the liner. This one will serve you with complete loyalty.

Features include: Highest quality black Cowhide, 100% brushed cotton lining in cream plaid, 2 zippered slash side entry pockets, 2 zippered breast pockets, an inside breast pocket, side adjusters, shoulder straps and buttons for epaulets, and a full piece back panel.
